Sardine Peptide: Potential for Emerging Applications in Emotional Well-being

May 13, 2026 News

Protein hydrolysates are increasingly recognized as sources of bioactive peptides with sequence-specific functionality, providing naturally derived alternatives to synthetic compounds.

While Sardine Peptide Extract (SPE) is well known for the dipeptide Val-Tyr (VY) associated with cardiovascular support, broader peptide profiling has indicated the presence of additional short-chain dipeptides, such as Tyr-Leu (YL) and Phe-Leu (FL).

Recent preclinical studies suggest the potential for these peptides in emotional well-being. Early evidence indicates that YL and FL interact with key neurotransmitter systems, such as the serotonin, dopamine, and GABA pathways, opening new possibilities for SPE as a multifaceted ingredient for systemic health.

The activities described are based on preclinical findings and require further validation in humans.
